Pulling an all-nighter is not a good idea, you need to re-charge your body and mind so you can feel your best at the exam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pack <\/strong>- Get together all your supplies the night before.&nbsp; Putting together an \u2018Exam Ziplock Baggie of <em>Fun<\/em>!\u2019 helps to keep your pens, pencils, erasers, calculator (if needed), Kleenex, ChapStick and student card all in one place so you don\u2019t forget anything.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fuel Your Mind<\/strong> - Eat breakfast, but nothing too big (you don\u2019t want to feel sick), or too sugary\/caffeinated (you don\u2019t want to hit a sugar or coffee low in the middle of the exam either).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Give Yourself Extra Time<\/strong> - Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to the exam location.&nbsp; This will give you time to calm down and find a good seat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Set Study Boundaries<\/strong> - Don\u2019t bring your study notes with you to the exam, this will only increase your stress level which is detrimental to your performance. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.3%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full img-thumbnail rounded-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/scld\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2021\/11\/Lab-lifesci2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/scld\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2021\/11\/Lab-lifesci2.jpg 864w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/scld\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2021\/11\/Lab-lifesci2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.6%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">During Your Exam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Get Comfy <\/strong>- You\u2019re going to be there for a while!&nbsp; Make sure you have your pens, student card and other supplies out of your coat or bag and on your desk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Breathe<\/strong> - If you are feeling anxious or nervous take a few deep abdominal breaths to calm yourself down.&nbsp; Visualize your success at the end of the exam as you hand in your paper (which you\u2019ve aced)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recall<\/strong> - As soon as you start, recall any information you\u2019re scared you might forget on the back of the exam paper.&nbsp; This could be formulas, definitions, or things to jog your memory such as acronyms or key words.&nbsp; This will help ease your anxiety as you will no longer have to worry about \u2018going blank\u2019 on this information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read Carefully<\/strong> - Read through <strong><u>all<\/u><\/strong> the instructions before you start the exam.&nbsp; Make sure you\u2019re not missing any pages in your exam booklet.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Set Time-Based Goals<\/strong> - Make up a rough time budget and allot more time to questions that are worth more points.&nbsp;Be realistic about multiple choice \u2013 give yourself at least 1 minute per question to be safe.&nbsp; Also, try to allot at least 10-15 minutes of buffer time to look through your paper at the end. Analyze where you went right and where you made mistakes.&nbsp; This is the study skill that is most often overlooked during the exam process.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reflect <\/strong>- Reflect on which study strategies you used to prepare for the exam and if they worked for you.&nbsp; If they did, keep them up; if they didn\u2019t, try something new next time! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reward<\/strong> - Congratulate yourself on doing so well!&nbsp;The exam is over \u2013 celebrate that!
