On June 24, 2025, Dr. Rhonda Lenton indicated that she would step down from her position as President and Vice-Chancellor of York University, effective December 31, 2025.
The search for the next President and Vice-Chancellor of York University will be guided and governed by the Principles Governing a Presidential Search (Principles).
The Presidential Search process is comprised of five main stages:

- Consultation with the University Community
- Candidate Search
- Candidate Assessment
- Announcement
Presidential Search Committee
The membership of the Presidential Search Committee is outlined in the Presidential Search Principles. Once confirmed, membership will be posted to this website.

Senate’s call for nominations is governed by the Nominations and Selection Guidelines for Designating Senate’s Nominees for the next Presidential Search Committee.

Consultation
In keeping with the Principles, the process should include broad and extensive consultations with the York community about the University's strategic needs in the following five to ten year period and about the attributes which the new president should possess to meet those needs.
