Certificate in teaching practices

This certificate offers course directors and librarians a flexible framework for further developing your understanding of university teaching and integrating a range of teaching strategies focused on student learning.

You will receive a certificate that is recognized at York and beyond. It can support your dossier as you progress in your teaching career or apply for teaching awards.

  • Book an individual consultation by emailing Mandy Frake-Mistak at mfmistak@yorku.ca to learn about the certificate requirements and develop an individual learning plan to achieve your goals
  • Complete an Instructional Skills Workshop
  • Select and attend a minimum of 3 workshops on a variety of teaching and learning topics
  • For your certification application, you will need to provide:
    • The list of workshops you have attended;
    • A teaching philosophy statement (500-800 words);
    • A reflective summary of your learning/key messages (350-500 words).
      • This reflective summary should be in the form of a blog post and will be published on our Teaching Commons "Blogs" page, and will appear in YFile.

Once all these requirements are fulfilled, apply for the certificate via our online submission system
