Telephone Problems

Before you call the Help Line, please check the following.

Telephone ProblemCheck the following...
Telephone Set is Dead - no power to the phoneIs your computer working? If yes, call the Help Line at 44357 if you have access to another phone. Otherwise, email telecomm@yorku.ca with your extension number, building and room location to report the issue
No Dial-ToneNo dial-tone when handset is lifted: put handset back in cradle and press the speaker phone button. If there is a dial-tone, then you have a bad handset or cord. Try another handset and curly cord; if possible. Report to the Help Line by calling extension 44357 to discuss or email telecomm@yorku.ca with your extension number, building and room location to report the issue and have a new handset and cord delivered.
No Ringing with dial toneIf your telephone is not ringing however there is a dial tone, check the volume control at the bottom of your phone. If you are not hearing a ring back, press the HOME button, tap Settings, tap Basic, tap Ring Type and ensure your phone is not set to Silent Ring. If it is select a desired ring type.

 

If your telephone is not ringing, check DND (do not disturb) and ensure you have this turned off. Screenshot of DND Turned on DND is off. Screenshot of DND Turned off DND is on.

If all the above fails, report to the Help Line by calling extension 44357 to discuss or email telecomm@yorku.ca with your extension number, building and room location to report the issue.

Date and Time Out of Sync messageIf your display is indicating “date and time out of synch” ensure your phone is attached to your computer and that your computer is working with a network connection. Then report the issue to the Help Line by calling extension 44357 or email telecomm@yorku.ca with your extension number, building and room location to report the issue.
Outside Line ProblemsEnsure the call out timer has not elapsed while making your call. Try making the call while the phone is idle. Dial the number on the dial pad, then lift the handset to initiate the call.

 

If you are completing the call and still are receiving an error, report the issue to the Help Line by calling extension 44357 and provide your extension number and the phone number you are attempting to call.
