Student Web Pages

What is it?

  • Only students enrolled in select courses will be able to activate a Student Web Page account
  • Uploaded pages will be accessible on the web at http://www.students.yorku.ca/~username
  • 10MB of storage is provided
  • Only basic HTML will work on student web pages. No capability is provided for scripting, java, flash, etc.

How do I get it?

First activate your Web Page account at http://mms.yorku.ca

It typically takes about 30 minutes for your account to become active after you put in a request for it to be activated.

Once your account is active you will have to use an FTP client like WinSCP to connect to the student web FTP server using the following information:

Hostname: www.students.yorku.ca
Port: 21
Username: Your Username
Password: Your Student Web Password
File Protocol: FTP - No Encryption

Viewing Your Files On The Web

Once you have uploaded a file to your Student Web Account it can take up to 10 minutes for the changes to become live on the web.

To view the files on your Student Web Account using a web browser you must type in the URL as follows:

http://www.students.yorku.ca/~username/filename

Where username is your Student Web Account username and filename is the name of the file that you wish to view.

For example, if your username is "tsmith" you upload a file named "mypage.html" to your home directory, the URL you would type in your web browser to view the file would be:

http://www.students.yorku.ca/~tsmith/mypage.html

Default Pages

You can also create a default page by uploading a file named either index.htm or default.htm to your home directory.

For example, if your username is "tsmith" you upload a file named index.htm to your home directory, the URL you would type in your web browser to view the file would be:

http://www.students.yorku.ca/~tsmith/
