{"id":156,"date":"2022-12-12T19:25:12","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T00:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/unit\/vpacad\/cridev\/?page_id=156"},"modified":"2023-07-05T11:02:49","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T15:02:49","slug":"curriculum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/unit\/vpacad\/curriculum-development\/curriculum\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Curriculum is an organized plan for student learning.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>\"Curriculum\" is from the Latin <em>currere<\/em>, meaning \"race\" or a \"race course.\" It began being used in the 1600s to flag an ordering of educational courses and by the 19th century the word \"curriculum\" commonly referred to a fixed course of study (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etymonline.com\/word\/curriculum\">1<\/a>).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>In higher education, \"curriculum\" has often meant the collection of courses that represented the foundation of a discipline. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In elementary and secondary schools, curriculum has been more prescriptive, with mandated expectations, assessments, and even resources for each course (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcp.edu.gov.on.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2<\/a>).
