Josh Miller

President

Hi my name is Josh Miller and I will be your president for the 2017/2018 school year! I have been apart of the club for four years now and on the executive team for 3 years. I major in atmospheric science, and for many reasons. The main reason is severe weather, ever since I was a little kid I've loved watching major snow, ice and thunderstorms. This passion has led me to storm chasing, and forecasting. Although I've only chased in Ontario I would love to chase in the states sometime very soon. Besides weather I'm also a sports guy, playing many sports growing up. This included playing on York's baseball team. Some of my other main interests are hockey, baseball camping, kayaking, and many outdoor activities. I look forward to spending the school year with all of you, filled with lots of cool and exciting events!

Celeena Mohammed

Vice President

Hey everyone, My name is Celeena and I’ll be your Vice President for the 2017/2018 year! I’m currently in my third year here at YorkU and recently switched into Environmental Studies from Atmospheric Science. I’m also an international student from Trinidad which is in the Caribbean and I’ve been fascinated about the weather and climate change since I was very young. As I grew older my passion for bridging the gap between climate change issues and climate change policy implementation also grew. In the future I would love to work for the United Nations to help with policies for climate change, sustainability and renewable energies! I’m super excited for this year and I hope its a great one.

Kristina Kretchman

Secretary-Treasurer

Hello everyone! My name is Kristina Kretchman and I will be YASC’s Secretary-Treasurer for the 2017-2018 school year. I am in my third year of study in the atmospheric science program and I am also working on completing my certificate in meteorology. This is my first year being on the executive team, but my third year being a member of the club! My interest in weather first sparked when I was just a little kid. I would always dread the summer time because I was terrified of thunderstorms, and I would hide in the basement whenever one was happening. Over time this fear turned into curiosity, and I would constantly watch The Weather Network and the TV series Storm Chasers. Now, severe weather really fascinates me and I would love to have a career in that field! Besides weather, my other interests and hobbies include rock climbing, skiing, astronomy, and spending time at my cottage. I also love wolves, documentaries, and Thai food! I am super excited to be apart of the executive team this year and looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s events!

David Robins

Senior Ambassador

Hi everyone! My name is David Robins and I will be your senior ambassador for the 2017/2018 school year. This will be my 4th year as a member of the atmospheric science club, and my first as an executive team member! I am currently in my 4th year of the atmospheric science program here at York, in hopes to pursue my dream to become an operational meteorologist. I have been interested in weather for much of my life, and in fact it started out as a terrible fear for thunderstorms at a young age. Now, thunderstorms are one of my favourite weather phenomena and I love to storm chase! I have seen numerous tornadoes and many significantly damaging severe thunderstorms. In addition to summer severe storms, I also love winter weather including ice storms and heavy snowfall events. In addition to storm chasing and forecasting, I also love to program and create different types of maps to distribute weather info. Outside of weather, I love sports. I specifically love to watch and play football, however I also play baseball and have been a Leafs fan for my entire life. I know this year is going to be an awesome one and I hope that all of you can be a part of the great events and activities that we will be having here at YASC!

Nicolas d'Entremont

Junior Ambassador

Hi everyone, my name is Nick d’Entremont and I’m the junior ambassador for YASC this year. This year my second year of study in Atmospheric Science, and it’s also my second year as a part of YASC. I’m originally from Ottawa, ON and I live in Toronto during the school year. I’ve been watching the weather since I was back in elementary school and have been a part of the CANWARN Storm Spotting program since I was 13 (I was the youngest person at the training session by at least two decades). The first thing that kick-started my passion for weather was watching storm systems approach over the water at my cottage and wondering what would make a powerful storm and just how weather patterns form in general. When I’m not doing school related stuff, I enjoy photography and videography, watching hockey and other sports, and playing curling when I get the chance (I’ve been curling for 12 years now). I’m a big fan of the Ottawa Senators and you might see me wearing my Sens gear every so often. I’m looking forward to being on the exec team this year and helping to make this year fun for everyone!
