The 2002 Maclean's University Rankings have been released. York has retained its sixth-place ranking in the comprehensive category. The University has maintained a high position in the important areas of percentage of the operating budget dedicated to scholarships and bursuries, and to student services.
York President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden noted the rankings for student assistance and services are a reflection of the high priority York places on delivering a high quality educational experience.
York also improved its showing in the reputational rankings, earning top-five ranks for Most Innovative (5th), Leaders of Tomorrow (4th) and Best Overall (5th). Last year, York made only one reputational index, Most Innovative.
"The Maclean's results confirm that more people are coming to appreciate the quality of education offered at York," said Marsden. "At York, we do things a little differently, but increasingly, that is being viewed in a positive way. Of course, there remains much work to do, to continue to build an appreciation of York's first-rate faculty, dedicated staff, and most important, our outstanding students."
