Quick: What is the number one deciding factor in the university a student chooses? Give up?

Sixty-five per cent of prospective students choose an institution based on an on-campus experience. In other words, first impressions count in a major way.

Knowing this, York Admissions has created a multifaceted strategy to connect prospective students to the University. In the first of a three-part series, applicants will receive an exclusive pass to the world of York, giving them access to special on-campus events, such as sports games, recitals, productions, exhibits, classes and tours.

Applicants are given special status and made to feel as though they are part of an elite group. Here's how it will work.

The pass will allow prospective students to create a personalized on-campus experience any day of the week by registering via a special portal in the Admissions Web site.

They will be able to do everything from star-gazing and becoming a Glendon student for a day to sitting in on a lecture and going to the "front of the line" at a varsity basketball game.

In the next phase of the campaign, students will go from restricted-access, on-campus experience to an exclusive online event. The E-Party, which will take place in April, will be their chance to plug into York and check out their prospective new home. They will be able to attend an e-class in the virtual Lecture Lounge, gallery hop, watch a live streamed concert or enjoy the Café Crawl – a series of online chats with professors, coaches, students and residence life experts.

In the third phase, which will take place in May, top students will be invited to a special on-campus event.

Creative development for the pass was carried out by the Account Direction unit in the Communications Division.
