Choose your soundtrack for a stress-free drive

Ninety-three per cent of people surveyed in a recent study agreed that being able to select their own music and entertainment actually helped reduce stress during their daily drive, wrote Kamloops This Week June 4. Nearly all surveyed thought great audio entertainment made their daily drive seem shorter.

According to David Wiesenthal, a psychology professor in York University’s Faculty of Health, who specializes in driver stress, the more personalized the programming is, the more powerful effect it has on reducing stress while behind the wheel. "Having the freedom to choose from a variety of entertainment that suits individual interests and tastes has proven to significantly reduce driver stress levels during their daily commute," Wiesenthal said.

Injury to Argo gives two Lions a chance

The race to be the Toronto Argonauts’ starting running back is open after Tyler Ebell was carried off the practice field yesterday morning with a left ankle injury, wrote the National Post June 5. The injury leaves Dominique Dorsey, acquired in a trade with Winnipeg last July, and former York Lions Andre Durie and Jeff Johnson (BA Hons. ’02) vying for a starting role. Durie and Johnson have both battled injury problems. Three years ago while playing for York, Durie suffered a knee injury so severe doctors questioned whether he would walk again.

Local singer on Canadian Idol

Bridgenorth’s Taylor Abrahamse is climbing the ladder to Canadian Idol success, wrote the Peterborough Examiner June 5. The 17-year-old Peterborough Collegiate & Vocational School (PCVS) student made the top 100 in the audition countdown Tuesday night, televised on CTV.

Abrahamse is a Grade 12 student at PCVS. He has been accepted at York University‘s Faculty of Fine Arts and says he’s 99.5 per cent sure he will be going there. "It’s a great school, with a lot of great people coming out of it, like PCVS," he said.

Abrahamse is a veteran performer. He was a semi-regular on the TV show "Doc" starring Billy Ray Cyrus. He has been in many TV commercials and starred in the TV movie about the Osmond family, playing the role of a young Jimmy Osmond.
