Teaching Commons offers a wide array of events and workshops

The Teaching Commons is offering a wide array of workshops to engage York University's teaching community at the start of an exciting new academic year.

Expand your teaching toolkit

The Teaching Commons announces a new course free of charge to all course directors at the York University. This course will provide participants the opportunity to investigate the theory and practice of teaching in a Canadian university context.

Are you interested in exploring the use of technology in your classroom? York University is now supporting an iClicker tool that you can use for free. The Teaching Commons and Learning Technology Services (LTS) will be offering hands-on workshops as a technical and pedagogical quick start guide on how to effectively use this tool in your teaching.

Connect with your community

The Teaching Wheels program is designed to support the continued development of your classroom practice by building community through a non-evaluative process of classroom observation and shared reflection. Register for one of our Fall kick-off meetings to form your Teaching Wheel group and to arrange the classroom observation schedule.

The Teaching Commons Journal Club has returned for its second year on Monday, Sept. 18. Join us in the Teaching Commons lounge for refreshments and discussion. Our article for discussion will be Making the Connection Between Research and Reality: Strategies Teachers Use to Read and Evaluate Journal Articles.

The Teaching Commons is continuing its weekly blog series. Entries explore a wide variety of topics related to teaching and learning at the university, written from the perspectives of our diverse faculty and staff community.

Fill your professional development calendar

The Teaching Commons calendar has a number of workshops available in the fall term. Join us to learn about building your teaching dossier, incorporating experiential learning into your teaching, or designing your course.
