As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect us all and pandemic fatigue sets in, resilience is more important than ever. On March 10, Psychologist and Director of the York University Psychology Clinic Dr. Louise Hartley will offer guidance on how we can all build stronger resiliency skills during the next talk in the Scholars’ Hub @ Home speaker series.

The talk, “Building Resiliency Skills,” takes place at 12 p.m. via Zoom.

Resiliency is an essential quality for each of us to have in order to maintain good physical and emotional health. Dr. Hartley will discuss three building blocks of resiliency: emotional intelligence, optimism and coping skills. The session will also touch on the impact of stress on women, in keeping with the theme of International Women’s Day, which is earlier in the week.

Dr. Hartley is the director at the York University Psychology Clinic, a state-of-the-art mental health and training centre community associated with the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Health. She is a registered psychologist who received her doctorate in clinical psychology from York University. Her 33 years of experience in many different settings – education, children’s mental health, and employee assistance – have given her a broad base of knowledge in helping adults and families cope with numerous types of problems. She has expertise in the field of organizational development that includes both individual and team interventions designed to build healthy work environments.

The Scholars’ Hub @ Home speaker series features discussions on a broad range of topics, with engaging lectures from some of York’s best minds. Events are held in partnership with Vaughan Public Libraries, Markham Public Library and Aurora Public Library, and are presented by York Alumni Engagement.
