The first talk takes place on Sept. 30 from 12:30 to 2:30 and features Dr. Thibaud Gruber, who is senior researcher at the Neuroscience of Emotions and Affective Dynamics lab at the Swiss Institute for Affective Sciences, University of Geneva. Gruber, who has spent many years studying chimpanzees in Uganda and human children in Switzerland, will be speaking on “A Cognitive Approach to Wild Cultures.”
The York Circle @ Home virtual lecture series will showcase leading faculty members, from policy makers to molecular scientists, to engage in lively panel discussions and Q-and-A sessions on key themes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series will be held over four sessions throughout the year via Zoom.
A new course in mindfulness with specific focus on the pandemic will be offered by the York University Psychology Clinic beginning Sept. 29.
Seven new faculty members join the Faculty of Health at York University this fall, with appointments in Kinesiology & Health Science, Psychology, Nursing and the School of Health Policy & Management. Joining the York University community are: Agnes Berthelot-Raffard, Catriona Buick, Amanda De Lisio, Nadia Prendergast, Heather Prime, Chip Rowan and Jeffrey Wardell.
Often overlooked by politicians, the media and members of the public, poverty is a profoundly important health issue. In the third edition of “Poverty in Canada: Implications for Health and Quality of Life,” York Professor Dennis Raphael relates poverty to its health effects on individuals, communities and society as a whole.
