{"id":12579,"date":"2009-05-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfiledev.uit.yorku.ca\/2009\/05\/13\/typography-exhibit-now-on-at-scott-library\/"},"modified":"2025-04-01T14:58:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T18:58:47","slug":"typography-exhibit-now-on-at-scott-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2009\/05\/13\/typography-exhibit-now-on-at-scott-library\/","title":{"rendered":"Typography exhibit now on at Scott Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new exhibit of modern typographic design is currently on display in the second floor atrium of the Scott Library.&nbsp;Arranged and curated by Professor David Cabianca, Department of Design,&nbsp;Faculty of Fine Arts, the exhibit features the journals<em> Speak<\/em> (1995-2000), <em>Emigre<\/em> (1987-2001), <em>Form+Zweck<\/em> (1990-current), <em>ANY <\/em>(1993-2000) and <em>Octavo<\/em> (1986-1992). <\/p>\n<p>The avant-garde publications on display are&nbsp;all held by the Clara Thomas Archives &amp; Special Collections. Many&nbsp;feature radical reinterpretations of &nbsp;graphic design and typography. The exhibit also includes examples of the early-20th-century journal <em>The Fleuron<\/em> (1923-1930), which sought to demonstrate and promote traditional tenets of good typography.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"256\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"8\" width=\"350\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20090511\/works2.jpg\" \/>Right: The Clara Thomas Archives &amp; Special Collections exhibit, curated by Professor David Cabianca, features work by influential graphic designers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>York University is the only Canadian university with a near complete set of <em>Emigre<\/em>.
