Nationally known poet, novelist and children’s writer Susan Musgrave, a frequent guest on CBC Radio, will read from her work, as well as talk about her writing Wednesday at York.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Presented by the Creative Writing Program in York’s Department of English, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, the reading will take place Nov. 18, from 11:30am to 1pm, at 214 Calumet College, Keele campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Right: Susan Musgrave<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Musgrave<\/a> is also an essayist and a columnist. She has published 25 books and has been described as everything from a stand-up comedian to an eco-feminist. She lives on Vancouver Island and on the Queen Charlotte Islands\/Haida Gwaii. <\/p>\n

\"\"Over the years, she has been nominated and has received awards in six different categories of writing: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, personal essay, children’s writing and for her work as an editor. <\/p>\n

In addition, Musgrave wrote the lyrics to a song, Missing, dedicated to 62 of the missing women on Vancouver’s downtown east side, which was recently released on CD. Proceeds from sales go to Haven Society, a non-profit organization that provides a transition house for women and children who have suffered abuse, as well as a victim services and women’s assault program on Vancouver Island.<\/p>\n

Her most recent novel is Cargo of Orchids<\/em> (Knopf Canada, 2000) and her latest poetry collection is What the Small Day Cannot Hold: Collected Poems 1970-1985<\/em> (Beach Holme Publishing, 2000). <\/p>\n
