York grad Angelina Pilon<\/strong> (BED ’90, BED ’92) is moving from her position as principal and system project leader for equity & inclusive education and student achievement to take on her new role as assistant superintendent of human resources in the School District of Mystery Lake, wrote Manitoba’s Thompson Citizen<\/em> March 17. <\/p>\n

Pilon also worked for Ontario’s Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board for 14 years and the Simcoe County District School Board for seven years. She has completed degree programs at York University and McMaster University, and received her master of education from Australia’s Charles Sturt University. <\/p>\n

York fires football head coach<\/strong><\/p>\n

York University Lions football head coach Mike McLean<\/strong> was fired Tuesday, reported The Toronto Sun <\/em>March 17. His teams were 0-16 over two seasons, including many lopsided losses. <\/p>\n

"This decision was not made lightly," York's athletic director Jennifer Myers said. "Following a thorough review, we determined that a change in leadership would be in the best interest of the football program, after it became apparent we had philosophical differences." <\/p>\n

A search for a new head coach will start immediately. That new coach won't have much time to prepare -- York's OUA season opener is on Labour Day at Guelph. \n<\/p>\n

Debutante ball a long-standing family tradition <\/strong><\/p>\n

North York’s Stephanie Willerding<\/strong> is a third-year psychology major at York University studying speech therapy, wrote the Bloor West Villager<\/em> March 16 in a story about a local debutante ball. She is back in the GTA after a three-year term at the University of Texas, where she studied on a tennis scholarship. <\/p>\n

Prosecutor was ‘one of the finest’ in Canada <\/strong><\/p>\n

Leo McGuigan<\/strong> (LLB ’60) prosecuted 83 murder cases in Peel, a mark that may never be surpassed, wrote The Mississauga News<\/em> March 16 in an obituary. McGuigan died Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 76. <\/p>\n

Born in Charlottetown, PEI, McGuigan moved to Ontario with his family during the Second World War. He was a proud alumnus of Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the bar in 1960. He was a highly skilled litigator and enjoyed a long, successful career including service as the Crown Attorney for Peel and later as regional director of Crown attorneys for the Central West Region, his family said. <\/p>\n
