Herman Schwartz, author of Subprime Nation: American Power, Global Capital and the Housing Bubble, <\/em>along with Randall Germain, editor of Globalization and Its Critics: Perspectives from Political Economy<\/em>, will deliver the keynote addresses at the upcoming Crisis of Capital, Crisis of Theory conference at York.<\/p>\n

The first in a series of conferences by the Forum on Capital as Power, Crisis of Capital, Crisis of Theory will take place from Friday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 31 at 280N and 280A York Lanes, Keele campus.<\/p>\n

\"\"Right: Herman Schwartz<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This conference in heterodox political economy will investigate the dual nature of the crisis, which is at once a crisis for capital, as well as a theoretical crisis. <\/p>\n

A political science professor at the University of Virginia, Schwartz is also co-editor of The Politics of Housing Market Booms and Busts<\/em> (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009) and Crisis, Miracles, and Beyond: Negotiated Adaptation of the Danish Welfare State<\/em> ( Aarhus University Press, 2008). <\/p>\n

\"\"Left: Randall Germain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Germain, chair of the Political Science Department at Carleton University, is also the author of the forthcoming Global Politics and Financial Governance<\/em>, as well as The International Organization of Credit <\/em>(Cambridge University Press, 1997), and co-editor of The Idea of Global Civil Society: Politics and Ethics in a Globalizing Era <\/em>(Routledge, 2005).  <\/p>\n

In addition to Scwhartz and Germain, there are 19 scheduled presentations, including those by York political science Professors George Comninel, David McNally, Leo Panitch and Jonathan Nitzan. <\/p>\n

The conference is sponsored by Routledge and Springer.<\/p>\n
