These are just some the questions that will be tackledtoday in a lecture by Professor Tom Campbell, director of Australia\u2019s Centre for Applied Philosophy &amp; Public Ethics.<\/p>\n<p>The talk will be held from 1:30 to 3pm in 305 York Lanes Offices, Keele campus.<\/p>\n<p>Campbell will argue that the structure of a traditional corporate \u201cbusiness case\u201d should be supplemented by a human rights justification which permits \u2013 and may require \u2013 a corporation to act <strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20110517\/TomCampbell.jpg\" alt=\" Tom Campbell\" width=\"150\" height=\"167\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/><\/strong>independently of its economic interests when this is necessary to fulfill its human rights responsibilities.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Right: Tom Campbell<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Campbell, a law and philosophy professor whose fields of interest include justice and human rights, business ethics and the legal theory of ethical positivism, is also the author of eight books on law and ethics: <em>Adam Smith's Science of Morals<\/em> (Allen &amp; Unwin, 1971); <em>Seven Theories of Human Society<\/em> (Oxford University Press, 1981); <em>The Left and Rights: A Conceptual Analysis of the Idea of Socialist Rights<\/em> (Routledge, 1983); <em>Mental Illness: Prejudice, Discrimination and the Law <\/em>(Dartmouth, 1991); <em>The Legal Theory of Ethical Positivism<\/em> (Dartmouth, 1996); <em>Prescriptive Legal Positivism<\/em> (UCL Press\/Cavendish, 2004); <em>Rights: A Critical Introduction<\/em> (Routledge, 2006); and <em>Justice <\/em>(Palgrave, 2010).<\/p>\n<p>This event is sponsored by the <a
