York University's <\/b>Schulich School of Business alumni grabbed the top three spots as the best overall stock pickers in Canada at the 2013 Thomson Reuters StarMine Overall Analyst Awards. The Thomson Reuters awards program recognizes a country's top analysts, brokerages, buy-side firms, funds and investor relations \"Schulich\"teams. According to Thomson Reuters, the program is \"a uniquely comprehensive guide to the world's leading investment professionals.\"<\/p>\n

Michael Parkin<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201907)<\/b>,\u00a0an analyst with Desjardins Securities, placed first; Kevin Chiang<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201903)<\/b>, a CIBC World Markets analyst, finished second; and\u00a0Scott Cuthbertson<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201988)<\/b>, formerly at TD Newcrest, came in third overall. The Schulich alumni were named the top three performing analysts based on the returns of their buy\/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates.<\/p>\n

Schulich graduates also dominated in the 2013 Thomson Reuters StarMine Industry Analyst Awards, placing either first or second in more than half of the categories where awards were handed out. Analysts were ranked according to their industry excess return, calculated from a portfolio simulation that measures each analyst relative to an industry-based benchmark.<\/p>\n

Michael Parkin<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201907)<\/b>, who finished first in the overall analyst awards, placed second among the Top Stock Pickers in the Metals & Mining industry category; Kevin Chiang<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201903)<\/b>, who placed second in the overall analyst awards, was Top Stock Picker in the Diversified Industries category; Scott Cuthbertson<\/strong>\u00a0(MBA \u201988)<\/b>, who finished third in the overall analyst awards, was Top Stock Picker in the Media category; David Tyerman (MBA'95),<\/b> with Canaccord Genuity, was Top Stock Picker in the Auto Parts industry; Philippa Flint<\/b> (MBA'94),\u00a0<\/b>with Bloom Burton & Co., <\/b>was the Top Stock Picker in the Health Care industry; \u00a0Steven Li<\/b> (MBA'97),<\/b> with Raymond James, was the Top Stock Picker in the IT Equipment category; Paul Steep<\/b> (MBA'98),<\/b> with Scotiabank GBM, placed second among the Top Stock Pickers in the Media category; Sean Steuart<\/b> (MBA'98),<\/b> with TD Newcrest, was the Top Stock Picker in the Paper & Forest Products industry; and Neil Forster<\/b> (MBA'06),<\/b> with Scotiabank GBM, was ranked second among the Top Earnings Estimators in the Diversified Industries category.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
