Professor Paul Fairlie of the School of Human Resource Management at York University submitted the following about a dear professor and friend who died Sunday, Jan. 5.<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

Professor Emeritus Christopher Nichols<\/p><\/div>\n

It is with great sadness that I note the passing of Dr. Christopher Nichols, associate professor emeritus, Department of Sociology. Dr. Nichols taught at York University for 30 years before retiring in 2005.<\/p>\n

Many students who had the privilege of taking his courses on human evolution, brain and behaviour, psychoanalysis, and other topics were transformed by his depth and brilliance. He inspired more than a few of us to seek graduate work. He also maintained deep, long-standing friendships with his students.<\/p>\n

Over the years, we came to know him as a gentle and caring individual \u2013 a loyal friend and mentor capable of great generosity, hospitality, and humour. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, colleagues, and former students.<\/p>\n

For some of us, the light in our beacons now shines a little less brightly.<\/p>\n

Visitation will take place Sunday, Jan. 12, from 12:30 to 1pm, followed by the service at 1pm at Marshall Funeral Home<\/a>, 10366 Yonge St., Richmond Hill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
