Chamberlain Children\u2019s Studies Speaker Series.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_199200\" style=\"width: 311px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199200\" class=\" wp-image-199200  \" alt=\"Kyra Gaunt \" src=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2014\/02\/Kyra-Gaunt-speaker-716x1024.jpg\" width=\"301\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/02\/Kyra-Gaunt-speaker-716x1024.jpg 716w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/02\/Kyra-Gaunt-speaker-280x400.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/02\/Kyra-Gaunt-speaker.jpg 820w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-199200\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kyra Gaunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Specializing in the study and performance of musical blackness and digital ethnography, Gaunt speaks and writes extensively on gender bias, institutional racism, hip-hop culture and social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chamberlain Speaker Series is intended to challenge and inspire Children\u2019s Studies students to think about the lived experience and cultures of contemporary children and youth,\u201d says Professor Peter Cummings, coordinator of the Children\u2019s Studies program. \u201cKyra Gaunt has much to offer not only to children\u2019s studies students and faculty but also to everyone at York interested in culture and expression, gender, sexuality and women\u2019s studies, girlhood studies, communication studies, music, dance, digital media and African-American studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaunt describes herself as a \u201cwriter, speaker, singer, vlogger and educator who empowers emerging adults to own their own greatness.\u201d She is author of <i>The Games Black Girls Play: Learning the Ropes from Double-Dutch to Hip-Hop <\/i>(New York University Press, 2006) and the e-book <i>The Audacity of Humanity<\/i>, a collection of short personal essays about social justice, written by 39 contributors, aged 10 to 63, from five continents.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is welcome to attend the Chamberlain Speaker Series\u00a0<strong>Tuesday, Feb. 25<\/strong> at 5:30pm in 135\u00a0 Vanier College.
