CERIS invites applications from recent and prospective PhDs to present their dissertation findings about migration and settlement at a workshop to be held on June 11<\/strong> at York University. During the workshop, participants will also receive hands-on training on how to write plain language research summaries. Following the workshop, CERIS will publish two-page summaries of the presented dissertations in its Research Summaries<\/a> series.<\/p>\n

This will be an opportunity for emerging scholars to discuss recent migration and settlement research with peers, learn how to write research summaries for future knowledge mobilization and disseminate research to a wider audience via research summaries.<\/p>\n

Eligibility rules:<\/h2>\n

In order to be eligible to present, applicants must have defended or expect to defend their doctoral dissertations:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Between Sept. 1, 2013 and Sept. 30, 2014;<\/li>\n
  • At an Ontario university, or currently hold a postdoctoral appointment at an Ontario university; and<\/li>\n
  • In an area related to migration and settlement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Submission Guidelines:<\/h2>\n

    Applicants should e-mail an abstract of their dissertation with its title, actual or expected date of defence, supervisor\u2019s name or postdoctoral supervisor\u2019s name, and originating program and university or hosting program and university in the case of postdocs to\u00a0Monica Valencia, CERIS knowledge exchange officer, by e-mail to monvalen@yorku.ca. The deadline is Wednesday, May 7<\/strong>. Applicants will be contacted during the week of May 12. Presenters will be responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses and arrangements. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day of the workshop.<\/p>\n

    About CERIS<\/h2>\n

    CERIS \u2013 The Ontario Metropolis Centre, is a consortium of Toronto-area universities and community partners. It is one of five such research centres across Canada established under the Metropolis Project.
