Designed to celebrate the efforts and the achievements of teaching assistants (TAs) who have completed the <a href=\"http:\/\/teachingcommons.yorku.ca\/for-senior-teaching-assistants\/\">Senior Teaching Assistant (STA) Program<\/a>, the symposium was a forum for York University's TAs to showcase\u00a0their dedication and contributions to enhancing and enriching student learning.<\/p>\n<p>Some 90 participants were welcomed by Celia Popovic, director of the Teaching Commons and Karen Krasny, associate dean, academic affairs in the Faculty of Graduate Studies.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_203387\" style=\"width: 269px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-203387\" class=\"wp-image-203387 \" src=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-3.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-3-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 259px) 100vw, 259px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-203387\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teaching Assistants (TAs) participate in a panel discussion<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\"The day was a tremendous success with many new and experienced TAs engaging with one another to develop their teaching practice for the benefit of York students,\" says Popovic.<\/p>\n<p>The STAY Symposium has also become the place to recognize TAs who have participated in programming offered by the Teaching Commons as the closing plenary of the STAY Symposium is really an awards ceremony.\u00a0 The 2013-2014 cohort of TAs who completed or are in the process of completing the TA Certificate in Teaching (TACT) course were recognized for their dedication to teaching and learning at York. \u00a0\"Record of Completion\" certificates were presented to TAs who attended at least six events hosted by the Teaching Commons and the Senior Teaching Assistants themselves were presented with certificates to recognize their contribution to the symposium.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_203388\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-203388\" class=\"size-full wp-image-203388\" src=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2014\/05\/Teaching-commons-4.jpg\" alt=\"TAs receive their Record of Completion Certificates\" width=\"632\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-commons-4.jpg 632w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-commons-4-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-203388\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">TAs receive their Record of Completion Certificates<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This year was particularly special since this cohort will be the first senior TA group in the Teaching Commons\u2019 young history to have completed the TA Certificate in Teaching (TACT)\u2014the program\u2019s pre-requisite course. \"It is the ultimate vision of the Teaching Commons to bring together like-minded individuals who are interested in exploring and sharing teaching and learning innovation across York University,\" says Popovic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_203389\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-203389\" class=\"size-full wp-image-203389\" src=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-5.jpg\" alt=\"Senior Teaching Assistants accepting their certificates.\" width=\"632\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-5.jpg 632w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2014\/05\/Teaching-Commons-5-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-203389\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senior TAs accepting their certificates<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To learn more about the many available programs, stop by the Teaching Commons office space located in Room 1050,\u00a0\u00a0Technology Enhanced Learning Building, or e-mail <a href=\"mailto:teaching@yorku.ca\">teaching@yorku.ca<\/a>.
