The awards recognize students, faculty and staff who are contributing to making York University a leader in sustainability among postsecondary institutions. The awards are intended to raise awareness of the important work that sustainability champions are doing at York University, to provide much-deserved recognition of their work, and to encourage others to get involved in sustainability initiatives on the University's campuses. Up to five awards will be given out each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt York, we take our commitment to sustainability very seriously,\u201d said President and Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri. \u201cThese awards will help us to recognize the many champions across the University who are leading the way in making us one of Canada\u2019s greenest universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Any student, faculty or staff member from the University community can nominate any other individual or group for consideration. Nominees will be considered for the award based on their demonstrated leadership in sustainability, specifically through the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the overall impact of the nominee\u2019s contributions to sustainability on campus, including the <strong>depth<\/strong> (how significant the contribution is) and <strong>breadth<\/strong> (how widespread, collaborative and\/or replicable the contribution is);<\/li>\n<li>degree of innovation and originality, and\/or degree of enhancement (to existing initiatives); and<\/li>\n<li>how the individual or group went \"over and above the call of duty\" (additional time and resources committed that were not part of their job description or academic program).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To submit a nomination, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/sustainability.info.yorku.ca\/psc\/awards\/\">President\u2019s Sustainability Leadership Awards<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination period begins today.
