McLaughlin College will continue its popular Lunch Talk series with two upcoming talks on Nov. 9 and 16. Both talks take place from noon to 1:30pm at 140 McLaughlin College (Senior Common Room).<\/p>\n

\"Michael<\/a>

Michael Fenn<\/p><\/div>\n

The first event, \u201cOntario and its Municipal Governments: Challenges and Opportunities\u201d<\/strong> will be presented by Michael Fenn, who has been an Ontario Deputy Minister under three premiers, municipal chief administrator in Hamilton and Burlington, and founding CEO of both Toronto\/Hamilton regional transportation authority Metrolinx and regional health authority Mississauga Halton LHIN.<\/p>\n

He now works as a management consultant and facilitator, specializing in the public sector and healthcare, including as a senior advisor with national consulting firm StrategyCorp. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the OMERS AC pension fund and the Toronto Board of Education\u2019s realty arm (The Toronto Lands Corporation).<\/p>\n

Among other awards, he holds The Medal of Distinction for Public Administration in Ontario and in 2010 was inducted into the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Honour Roll. His recent research studies and reports include: \u201cMegatrends: The Impact of Infrastructure on Ontario\u2019s and Canada\u2019s Future\u201d (2016: Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario); \u201cVital Capital: Using Alternative Financing Models to Capitalize on the \u201cInfrastructure Moment\u201d in the Great Lakes Region,\u201d with Sara Ditta, Matthew Mendelsohn, and Robert Puentes (2015: University of Toronto Mowat Centre); and \u201cRecycling Ontario\u2019s Assets: A New Framework for Managing Public Finance\u201d (2014: University of Toronto Mowat Centre).<\/p>\n

This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Master, McLaughlin College and School of Public Policy and Administration and Law.<\/p>\n

The second event on Nov. 16 features Wesley Cragg, who will present a talk titled \u201cOil Pipelines and Pipe Dreams: What is the Real Issue?\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Wesley<\/a>

Wesley Cragg<\/p><\/div>\n

Cragg is one of the world\u2019s leading scholars in the area of business ethics. During the talk he will explore what the Premier of Alberta and oil company and pipeline executives want you to believe \u2013 that building a Canada East or a pipeline west to Vancouver is a political issue and an economic necessity. He will argue it is an ethical issue, and the resistance to constructing new pipelines is not going to fade away until the ethical issues involved are addressed and resolved.<\/p>\n

Cragg is a senior scholar and professor at York University in philosophy and the Schulich School of Business. A Rhodes Scholar, he was invited to York University in 1992 as the first George R. Gardiner Professor of Business Ethics. He founded the Canadian Chapter of Transparency International. He is also project director and principal investigator for the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network (CBERN), located in the Schulich School of Business.<\/p>\n

Cragg has published widely in Canadian and international journals and written and edited a number of books. A recent research theme is mining, economic development and Aboriginal communities particularly those located in the Canadian North.<\/p>\n

This event is hosted by the Office of the Master, McLaughlin College and York Collegium for Practical Ethics.<\/p>\n
