{"id":250850,"date":"2018-02-25T20:16:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T01:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfiledev.uit.yorku.ca\/?p=250850"},"modified":"2025-04-03T13:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:33:07","slug":"search-begins-for-dean-of-the-faculty-of-graduate-studies-avp-graduate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2018\/02\/25\/search-begins-for-dean-of-the-faculty-of-graduate-studies-avp-graduate\/","title":{"rendered":"Search begins for dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, AVP graduate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A search is underway for dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies\/associate vice-president graduate.<\/p>\n<p>The search committee is chaired by Vice-Provost Academic <strong>Alice Pitt<\/strong> and membership is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Christopher Ardern<\/strong>, professor, School of Kinesiology &amp; Health Science, Faculty of Health;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aleksander Czekanski<\/strong>, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Merouan Mekouar<\/strong>, assistant professor, Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts &amp; Professional Studies (LA&amp;PS);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Victor Shea<\/strong>, graduate program director, Department of Humanities, Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) and LA&amp;PS;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michael Zryd<\/strong>, professor, Department of Cinema &amp; Media Studies, School of the Arts, Media, Performance &amp; Design, and associate dean, FGS;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jinyan Li<\/strong>, professor, Osgoode Hall Law School (president\u2019s designate);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bridget Stutchbury<\/strong>, professor, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science (president\u2019s designate);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rhonda George<\/strong>, student, Graduate Program in Sociology;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Munjeera Jefford<\/strong>, student, Graduate Program in Social &amp; Political Thought;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Almey Tse Soriano<\/strong>, manager, Student Affairs, Office of the Dean, FGS (staff representative); and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marla Chodak<\/strong>, Provost\u2019s Office, search committee secretary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The search will be internal to York University and the search committee has issued a call for applications and nominations (see <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2opsgiD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bit.ly\/2opsgiD<\/a>). The committee is also developing a position profile to provide a more detailed description of the opportunity and the experience and skills sought in candidates, and welcomes input from the community (faculty, staff and students) on the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the current strengths of FGS?<\/li>\n<li>How do you see the role of FGS going forward?<\/li>\n<li>What are the opportunities and challenges?<\/li>\n<li>What are your goals and aspirations for graduate and postdoctoral education, and for FGS for the next five years?<\/li>\n<li>What qualifications, experience, skills, qualities, etc. should the committee be seeking in candidates for dean\/AVP to move towards those goals?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Input on these questions should be sent to the committee\u2019s secretary, <a href=\"mchodak@yorku.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marla Chodak<\/a>, by <strong>March 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Requests for the more detailed position profile (to be available by mid-March) may also be directed to the secretary.
