Dedicated and longtime former York University staff member Patricia Cates died on Jan. 20 at the age of 71.<\/p>\n

Patricia Cates<\/p><\/div>\n

Cates spent 40 years with York University as a financial and administrative co-ordinator in the then Faculty of Arts, and after leaving that position, she continued to serve the University part-time by working in the alternate exam rooms for students with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Cates was instrumental in leading the United Way campaign in the Faculty, which she did for 11 years at York University. She was nominated for a President\u2019s Award in recognition of her efforts.<\/p>\n

She is survived by her sister, Noreen; her children, Andrew, Colin, and Christine; and her grandchildren, Julianna, Doiron, Perry, Graeme, Grayson and Zoey.<\/p>\n

Visitation will be held at Marshall Funeral Home<\/a>, 10366 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Friday, March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. If desired and\/or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
