An event to mark the 50th annual meeting of the Canadian Association for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CALACS) will be held at York University's Keele Campus from May 10 to 12.<\/p>\n

Organized by York's\u00a0Centre for Research on Latin America & the Caribbean (CERLAC), the 2019 conference will convene more than 300 speakers and other participants from across the Americas and from a variety of disciplines in social sciences and humanities.<\/p>\n

\"CALACS\"<\/p>\n

Titled \"CALACS at 50,\" the conference will recognize the association's 50th annual meeting as well as mark the first conference that was held at York 50 years ago.<\/p>\n

York University history Professor Alan Durston is the Chair of the CALACS conference. He is also the director of CERLAC at York University.<\/p>\n

The CALACS Congress is held every year, showcasing the research and the activities of its members and invited guests. Like CALACS, the congress is interdisciplinary and open to papers and panels in many fields, covering diverse issues of importance to the region.<\/p>\n

The three-day event offers an opportunity to celebrate and take stock \u2013 in one of the world\u2019s most diverse cities \u2013 of a half-century of Canada-based interdisciplinary research and activism in the region.<\/p>\n

Most sessions will take place in the Accolade West Building, and registration is free for York undergraduate students.<\/p>\n
