I would also&nbsp;like to wish you a happy new year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, our new year begins amidst a surge in cases&nbsp;because of&nbsp;the omicron variant of COVID-19. As a consequence, the province has recently&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1001394\/ontario-temporarily-moving-to-modified-step-two-of-the-roadmap-to-reopen\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;a return to a modified Step 2 of its reopening plan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since&nbsp;York made the decision to delay the resumption of most in-person activities in the winter term, the&nbsp;immediate&nbsp;impact&nbsp;of the new provincial guidelines is minimal and limited to non-instructional and non-research activities and spaces. Nevertheless, the new&nbsp;restrictions do affect some University operations such as restaurants as well as other sectors. York has therefore&nbsp;made the&nbsp;following additional changes to in-person teaching, learning, research,&nbsp;and work:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>With some exceptions where the student learning outcomes cannot easily be realized without in-person instruction, courses will remain online until&nbsp;Jan.&nbsp;31. Faculty&nbsp;members&nbsp;and instructors will receive additional details directly by email in the coming days. Teaching supports will continue to be offered through the Teaching Commons in addition to Faculty-level services.<br><\/li><li>Staff&nbsp;who are not required to be in-person will&nbsp;continue to work remotely and&nbsp;will receive additional details&nbsp;from managers&nbsp;directly by email in the coming days.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Researchers can continue on-campus research; however, everyone is asked&nbsp;to&nbsp;attend only to&nbsp;essential&nbsp;activities.&nbsp;<br><\/li><li>Libraries&nbsp;are offering&nbsp;contactless curb-side pickup&nbsp;only, with few exceptions, until&nbsp;Jan. 10. Please use the following email&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:askusyul@yorku.caf\" target=\"_blank\">askusyul@yorku.ca<\/a>&nbsp;for assistance.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The school closures in K\u201312 have also added more responsibilities to those balancing work with childcare and other caregiving responsibilities. As we have done previously, the University encourages leaving 12 to 1 p.m. unscheduled and free of meetings to support general wellbeing and to help caregivers. A reminder to all employees that&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/bettertogether\/2021\/01\/26\/community-update-26-supporting-the-york-community-during-the-covid-19-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\">resources&nbsp;and support<\/a>&nbsp;are available, and additional supports can be accessed through&nbsp;York\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.workhealthlife.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Employee and Family Assistance Program<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am pleased to\u00a0announce a\u00a0dedicated York community vaccination clinic\u00a0will run from Jan. 10 through to Jan. 28 at the\u00a0Keele\u00a0Campus.\u00a0More information about the clinic will be communicated in the coming days.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we continue to do&nbsp;what we can&nbsp;to blunt the impact of the omicron variant,&nbsp;I urge everyone to continue to follow the most current public health&nbsp;guidance. Please ensure you receive&nbsp;a third&nbsp;dose of the COVID-19&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ontariohealth.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vaccine<\/a>&nbsp;as soon as you are able,&nbsp;maintain physical distance&nbsp;where possible, and wear a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection\/prevention-risks\/about-non-medical-masks-face-coverings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high-quality&nbsp;mask<\/a>. Please do not come to campus unless you must and, if you do come to campus, complete your screening on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/yorku.ubixhealth.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YU Screen<\/a>. Most importantly, please do not come to campus if you feel&nbsp;unwell.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are challenging times&nbsp;as&nbsp;the pandemic continues to&nbsp;test us with new and continuing strains and stress. Thank you for your cooperation, flexibility,&nbsp;and shared commitment to community health and safety. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The administration will be continuing to monitor developments and is in frequent contact with government, public health officials, and other PSE institutions regarding the trajectory of the pandemic.
