{"id":346799,"date":"2023-12-06T18:32:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T23:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/?p=346799"},"modified":"2025-04-02T12:40:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T16:40:06","slug":"statement-from-president-rhonda-lenton-in-response-to-ontario-auditor-general-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2023\/12\/06\/statement-from-president-rhonda-lenton-in-response-to-ontario-auditor-general-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement from President Rhonda Lenton in response to Ontario auditor general report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">York University has received the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auditor.on.ca\/en\/content\/annualreports\/arbyyear\/ar2023.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Operations and Capital Audit<\/a> that was undertaken by the auditor general of Ontario (AGO). The report was released as part of the AGO\u2019s annual report to the Ontario Legislature and follows recent audits of other Ontario universities.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The University&nbsp;appreciates the work of the&nbsp;Office of the&nbsp;Auditor General and thanks them for their collaborative approach to undertaking this audit.&nbsp;The University agrees with the auditor&nbsp;general\u2019s overall conclusion that York is financially sustainable and&nbsp;we&nbsp;accept the recommendations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;University&nbsp;had identified many of the areas highlighted in the report as part of our own planning processes&nbsp;including those related to international students and capital investments. We will&nbsp;use the recommendations in the report to further strengthen&nbsp;the robust plans already underway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last six years,&nbsp;the University&nbsp;has been&nbsp;delivering on&nbsp;the vision and priorities set out in the University Academic Plan guided by a strategic framework&nbsp;that&nbsp;aligns&nbsp;the external context with our Integrated Resource&nbsp;Plans&nbsp;to hone a financially sustainable approach supporting the success of our students and driving positive change for the communities we serve.&nbsp;That approach&nbsp;includes&nbsp;plans to&nbsp;grow&nbsp;enrolment;&nbsp;assess program, department and&nbsp;Faculty sustainability;&nbsp;and diversify sources of revenue. The University has a strong debt repayment strategy,&nbsp;has&nbsp;no plans to take on more debt&nbsp;and&nbsp;we have already&nbsp;increased annual contributions to deferred maintenance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we work through the recommendations from the auditor general,\u00a0we will continue to\u00a0deliver on\u00a0our mandate\u00a0to provide a diverse demographic of students access to a high-quality, research-intensive university committed to\u00a0enhancing the well-being of the communities that we serve. We will do this while continuing to make\u00a0sound investments in the\u00a0long-term sustainability\u00a0of York University.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e9claration de la pr\u00e9sidente Lenton en r\u00e9ponse au rapport du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l\u2019Ontario <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019Universit\u00e9 York a re\u00e7u <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auditor.on.ca\/fr\/content-fr\/annualreports\/arbyyear\/ar2023-fr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">l\u2019audit des op\u00e9rations et du capital<\/a> r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par le Bureau du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l\u2019Ontario (VGO). Ce rapport a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9 dans le cadre du rapport annuel du VGO \u00e0 l\u2019Assembl\u00e9e l\u00e9gislative de l\u2019Ontario et fait suite \u00e0 des v\u00e9rifications r\u00e9centes d\u2019autres universit\u00e9s de l\u2019Ontario.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019Universit\u00e9 est reconnaissante du travail du Bureau du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et le remercie pour l\u2019approche collaborative adopt\u00e9e dans le cadre de cet audit. Nous sommes d\u2019accord avec la conclusion g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral selon laquelle York est financi\u00e8rement viable et acceptons les recommandations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019Universit\u00e9 avait recens\u00e9 plusieurs domaines mis en \u00e9vidence dans le rapport dans le cadre de ses propres processus de planification, notamment ceux li\u00e9s aux \u00e9tudiants internationaux et aux investissements en capital. Nous utiliserons les recommandations du rapport pour renforcer les plans rigoureux d\u00e9j\u00e0 en cours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au cours des six derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, York a concr\u00e9tis\u00e9 la vision et les priorit\u00e9s d\u00e9finies dans le Plan acad\u00e9mique de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 en se basant sur un cadre strat\u00e9gique qui aligne le contexte externe sur nos plans de ressources int\u00e9gr\u00e9s afin de parfaire une approche financi\u00e8rement durable appuyant la r\u00e9ussite de nos \u00e9tudiants et suscitant des changements positifs pour les communaut\u00e9s que nous servons.&nbsp; &nbsp;Cette approche comprend des plans visant \u00e0 augmenter le nombre d\u2019inscriptions, \u00e0 \u00e9valuer la viabilit\u00e9 des programmes, des d\u00e9partements et des facult\u00e9s, et \u00e0 diversifier les sources de revenus. L\u2019Universit\u00e9 dispose d\u2019une solide strat\u00e9gie de remboursement de la dette, n\u2019a pas l\u2019intention de s\u2019endetter davantage et a d\u00e9j\u00e0 augment\u00e9 ses contributions annuelles \u00e0 la maintenance diff\u00e9r\u00e9e.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout en travaillant sur les recommandations du v\u00e9rificateur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, nous continuerons \u00e0 remplir notre mandat, qui est d\u2019offrir \u00e0 une population \u00e9tudiante diversifi\u00e9e l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 une universit\u00e9 de haute qualit\u00e9, \u00e0 forte intensit\u00e9 de
