An invitation went out on Oct. 20 to the Glendon community from its new Distinguished Fellow, former federal cabinet minister David Collenette. The invitation welcomed everyone to drop by his office in York Hall to view his historic photo collection and other political memorabilia, and to chat with him in an informal setting.<\/P>
\n

The response was overwhelming. People clearly felt very comfortable approaching him with questions or just for a friendly chat. The framed photos cover Collenette's office walls and chronicle the times and events that have spanned his political career. Pictures show him with Queen Elizabeth II, former prime ministers Lester Pearson, Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chr\u00e9tien, plus many other prominent politicians and public figures. <\/P>

One of the prized possessions Collenette displays in his office is his armchair from the House of Commons. It was a farewell gift from his parliamentary staff and it has a prominent place in his office. Visitors enjoyed the opportunity of being photographed while sitting in it \u2013 no doubt a great addition to many family photo albums.<\/P>
\n

Collenette's presence on campus provides enrichment to the Glendon experience in a number of ways. Academically, he is giving special guest lectures in eight Glendon courses over the academic year. During the second semester, he will be organizing a conference on Qu\u00e9bec and the Federal Government, as well as a symposium on the results of the recent American elections. And as a Glendon grad, Collenette is a role model, an outstanding example of the value of a Glendon education and a direct link to public affairs, one of the cornerstones of Glendon's mandate. <\/P>
