{"id":372914,"date":"2025-02-19T16:39:27","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T21:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/?p=372914"},"modified":"2025-02-19T16:39:28","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T21:39:28","slug":"learn-about-repetitive-strain-injury-prevention-feb-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2025\/02\/19\/learn-about-repetitive-strain-injury-prevention-feb-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn about repetitive strain injury prevention, Feb. 28"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do you know what repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) are, or how they can be prevented?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Repetitive strain injuries are disorders of the musculoskeletal system that may involve tendons, muscles and nerves. These injuries can develop progressively over time, spanning weeks, months or even years. Common symptoms include tightness, discomfort, stiffness, soreness, burning sensations, tingling or numbness, particularly in the hands, wrists and arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RSIs represent approximately 40 per cent of workplace injuries reported to the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsps.ca\/resource-hub\/articles\/prevent-rsis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WSPS, 2025<\/a>). One effective strategy to mitigate the risk of RSIs is to regularly change positions and incorporate movement throughout the workday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In support of RSI Awareness Day, York\u2019s Health, Safety &amp; Employee Well-Being team will offer a virtual lunch and learn session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ergonomic Principles in the Workplace<\/strong><br>Friday, Feb. 28<br>12:15 to 12:45 p.m.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/yulearn.yorku.ca\/local\/yulearn\/learning_opportunity.php?id=1650\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Register for the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will learn how to optimize their workstations using ergonomic principles.
