Jim Hulton, a former member of York\u2019s men\u2019s hockey team, helped lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship on Tuesday in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Canada defeated Russia 6-1 for its 11th world junior championship and first since 1997.<\/P>
\n

Hulton (BA Hons. \u201993), an assistant coach with the national team that finished the tournament undefeated, was a left winger for York from 1989 to 1993 and was team captain in his final year. In four seasons with York he tallied 13 goals and 30 assists. Hulton came to York from the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Kingston Raiders after playing two seasons with the Kitchener Rangers.<\/P>

Now head coach of the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, Hulton also led Canada's national under-18 team as head coach to a gold medal at the 2002 Eight Nations Cup. He was an assistant coach with Canada's national under-18 summer team which won the 2001 Six Nations under-18 tournament in the Czech Republic.<\/P>

The native of Wolfe Island, Ont., coached the Belleville Bulls for three years prior to joining the Frontenacs and won an OHL Eastern Conference regular season championship in 2001-2002. His coaching career began in 1997 with the North Bay Centennials and includes a stint as head coach of the Mississauga Ice Dogs from 1998 to 2000.<\/P>

Canada dominated the opposition throughout the World Junior Championship, outscoring its opposition 41-7 in six games. <\/P>
