More than 20 York University community members have been recognized with a prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal, a commemorative honour awarded to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to public service and society.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Recipients of the King Charles III medal are recognized for their meaningful impact across various sectors, including education, research, public policy and social advocacy. The medal particularly honours individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their communities, long-standing dedication to Canada\u2019s well-being and efforts that foster positive change both nationally and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n

The York University members \u2013 including current and former faculty and staff, students, alumni and honorary degree reciepients \u2013 who received the medal are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Francesca Accinelli<\/strong>
Currently serving as senior vice-president of program strategy and industry development at Telefilm Canada, alumna Accinelli has over two decades of leadership in Canada's film and television industry. The honour serves as a recognition of not just her contributions to the audiovisual sector, but the impact of the Canadian storytelling she has helped support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alidad Amirfazli<\/strong>
A professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering<\/a>, Amirfazli\u2019s pioneering research in surface engineering and droplet dynamics has earned him numerous accolades. His work has led to significant advancements in coatings, anti-icing surfaces and applications in aerospace, health care and energy industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pat Armstrong
<\/strong>Professor Emerita and Distinguished Research Professor from the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies<\/a>, Armstrong is a leading voice in health-care research and social policy. Notably, she has dedicated her career to understanding those who provide and those who need care, as well as the policies that shape their work and the conditions that determine their ability to help others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mukul Asthana<\/strong>
Asthana is an alum, a committee member of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, and an executive leader at Acclaim Health, which delivers home care to the aged. He received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to the community of Oakville, On. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janine Brodie<\/strong>
Brodie is a political scientist and former professor who was honoured for her influential work in Canadian politics and social policy. Her research has shaped national discussions on equality, social justice and governance, making lasting contributions to public policy and academic scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruce Campbell<\/strong>
A professor and former executive director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Campbell was recognized for his extensive work in public policy analysis. His expertise has been instrumental in investigating economic inequality, corporate power and governmental accountability in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeanette Chau<\/strong>
An alumna, electrical engineer, author and retired military officer, Chau was honoured for her work in the non-profit and profit sectors, as well as her advocacy in promoting women in engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Cole<\/strong>
Director of programming at the Lassonde School of Engineering<\/a>\u2019s k2i academy, Cole was awarded for her contributions to STEM education and outreach initiatives. She has been a driving force in increasing diversity and accessibility in STEM fields, inspiring underrepresented youth to pursue careers in science and engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheila Colla<\/strong>
Colla, an associate professor in the Faculty of Environmental & Urban Change<\/a>, was acknowledged for her research in conservation biology and pollinator ecology. Her work focuses on protecting at-risk bee populations and advocating for sustainable environmental policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Constantinou<\/strong>
Constantinou, professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration<\/a>, was recognized for his expertise in public sector management and policy development. He has trained generations of public servants and policymakers, emphasizing evidence-based decision-making and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennifer Corriero<\/strong>
An alumnus of the Master in Environmental Studies (MES) program and community fellow at the Wellness Impact Lab (WIL) at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research<\/a>, Corriero was honoured for providing educational resources and delivering interactive learning services to remote Indigenous communities. Corriero has enhanced access and opportunities for thousands of young people across Canada. As co-founder of TakingITGlobal, she has championed digital inclusion and youth empowerment on a global scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pina D\u2019Agostino<\/strong>
D\u2019Agostino, an associate professor at Osgoode Hall Law School<\/a>, was awarded for her leadership in intellectual property law and innovation. She is the founder of the Intellectual Property Law & Technology Program at Osgoode, which advances research and education in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheila Embleton<\/strong>
A distinguished research professor in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies<\/a> (LAPS)and former VP Academic & Provost, Embleton was honoured for her work in linguistics, particularly in dialectology, sociolinguistics and mathematical\/statistical methods in linguistics. Her research explores language variation and change, and she has specialized in the study of English, German, Germanic, French, Romance, Russian, Slavic, Finnish and Finno-Ugric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muhammad Wajahat Faizan<\/strong>
An alum of LAPS, Faizan was awarded the medal for his ongoing dedication to the legal profession and to legal education in Canada. As a barrister and solicitor, he has made significant contributions to the community through his work in immigration, real estate, estate law and culturally informed legal guidance, helping families resettle and thrive in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marco Fiola<\/strong>
Fiola, principal at York's Glendon College<\/a>, was recognized for his expertise in translation studies and multilingual communication. His work has contributed to cross-cultural understanding and the development of translation standards in Canada and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tammy Gordon<\/strong>
York University alumna and co-founder of the Tamara Gordon Foundation, Gordon was acknowledged for her advocacy for individuals with disabilities. Through her foundation, she has provided scholarships and support to students with disabilities, fostering inclusivity in education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wesley Hall<\/strong>
Hall, who is an honorary docotorate recipient<\/a>, was recognized for his efforts in eliminating systemic anti-Black racism and fostering the success of entrepreneurs and leaders from racialized communities. As a business leader and philanthropist, he has launched initiatives that promote equity and representation in corporate Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charles (Chuck) Hendriks
<\/strong>Hendriks, a contract faculty member with the School of Administrative Studies<\/a> since 2000, was recently recognized for his teaching excellence at the university level and his work with Indigenous communities across Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natasha Henry-Dixon<\/strong>
Henry-Dixon, a professor of African-Canadian History at York University, was awarded for her advancement of understanding of Black history in Ontario as a past president of the Ontario Black History Society, as well as number of publications that deal with the enslavement of Black people in Ontario, their quest for freedom, and celebrations of emancipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barrie Jones<\/strong>
An alumnus and renowned photographer, Jones was recognized for his contributions to the arts. His work captures powerful social narratives, exploring themes of identity, history and cultural transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Kamstra<\/strong>
Kamstra, an MES alum, was recognized for his work in protecting and conserving Canada\u2019s endangered biodiversity as a field biologist and environmental consultant. His expertise has supported ecological restoration projects and policy recommendations for preserving native species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Lanfranco<\/strong>
A professor emeritus in the Department of Economics<\/a>, Lanfranco was recognized for his work in international development, information and communication technology policy, as well as knowledge management. His research has informed global strategies on digital economies and equitable access to technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhonda Lenton<\/strong>
President and vice-chancellor of York University, Lenton was recognized for her leadership in academia and commitment to fostering innovation and excellence. She has championed student success, research impact and the University\u2019s role as a driver of positive societal change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suzanne MacDonald<\/strong>
MacDonald, professor in the Department of Psychology<\/a>, specializes in animal behaviour and cognition, with research focusing on wildlife in urban environments. Her studies have provided critical insights into human-wildlife interactions, informing conservation strategies and urban planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Makini McGuire-Brown<\/strong>
An MBA graduate and PhD candidate at York University's Schulich School of Business<\/a>, McGuire-Brown was awarded for her work in health policy and integrating internationally trained physicians into the Canadian health-care system. She has been a strong advocate for equitable health-care access and workforce inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marion Pardy<\/strong>
An alumna, ordained minister and author, Pardy was recognized with the medal for her leadership and commitment to interfaith community service. She has been a multi-faith social activist who seeks to highlight the values of all faiths, and promote learning opportunities around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sapna Sharma<\/strong>
Associate professor in the Department of Biology<\/a>, Sharma was honoured for her research on the effects of climate change on freshwater ecosystems. Her work has advanced understanding of ice cover loss, species migration and the ecological impacts of warming temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pamela Schwartzberg<\/strong>
Schwarztberg, an MES alumna and CEO of the organization Learning for a Sustainable Future<\/a> which is located at York, received the award in recognition of contributions and dedication to sustainability and climate change education in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennifer Traub<\/strong>
An alumna, Traub was awarded for her leadership in supporting the Canadian Cancer Society and her contributions to cancer policy and fundraising initiatives. Her efforts have helped improve patient support services, research funding and public awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akolisa (Ako) Ufodike<\/strong>
Associate professor in the School of Administrative Studies<\/a>, Ufodike was recognized for his research in public sector governance and accountability. His work examines financial oversight, ethics and transparency in both government and non-profit sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deb Voorheis<\/strong>
Voorheis, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics,<\/a> was recognized for her volunteer work with Parkinson Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rui Wang<\/strong>
Professor and dean of the Faculty of Science<\/a> at York University, Wang was awarded for his biomedical research on gasotransmitters and cardiovascular health. His pioneering work has contributed to medical advancements in treating cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
