\"TheBook publisher Between the Lines<\/U><\/FONT><\/A> will hold a launch event in celebration of the publication of York Professor Emeritus John S. Saul's latest work, The Next Liberation Struggle: Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy in Southern Africa<\/I>.<\/P>
\n

Through four decades Saul has studied, written about and supported southern African liberation struggles. This collection of essays draws together his long-range perspectives on regional change and illuminates the developments that culminated in the independence of Zimbabwe and Namibia and the overthrow of apartheid.<\/P>
\n

Saul provides a pragmatic assessment of what has, and hasn't, been achieved in the region. Part One sets out broad themes. Part Two presents case studies of Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Part Three focuses on South Africa, on transitions, and on socio-economic outcomes (largely neo-liberal and inegalitarian). Ultimately he identifies forces for change, and suggests imperatives and implications for Africa's next liberation struggle.<\/P><\/B>

The launch, which Saul will attend along with York colleagues and friends, will take place Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 8pm at <\/FONT>Dooney's Caf\u00e9<\/U><\/FONT><\/A>, 511 Bloor St. West, in Toronto<\/P><\/B><\/FONT><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
