Are you a member of a school or department that will be joining York\u2019s new Faculty of Health? Then you should plan to attend a special information forum taking place today, from 9:30am to noon, in the Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Bldg. All faculty and students who will be part of the Faculty of Health are invited to attend this forum to learn more about the new faculty and developments in the search for a dean. <\/P>
\n

The event will also give faculty members, graduate students, senior undergrads and staff in the departments entering York\u2019s new Faculty of Health, including the School of Health Policy & Management; School of Kinesiology & Health Science; School of Nursing; Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts; and Department of Psychology, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, an opportunity to meet and get to know one another.<\/P>

As part of the forum, Richard Alvarez (right)<\/STRONG>, president and CEO of Canada Health Infoway, will give a special presentation, from 9:30 to 10:30am, on the use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). <\/P>
\n

In his current role with Canada Health Infoway, Alvarez is responsible for providing overall direction and leadership for Canada Health Infoway activities and possesses a deep understanding of the Canadian healthcare industry. Canada Health Infoway is working to develop of a network of interoperable electronic health record solutions across Canada \u2013 linking clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and other points of care for a fully integrated and accessible electronic health records system. Alvarez has a strong information technology background and a  vision of the role and potential benefits of e-health for Canadians. <\/P>
\n

In his presentation, Alvarez will examine the logistical and ethical issues surrounding the case for EHRs. He will provide an overview of the challenges associated with the implementation and acceleration of EHRs and will focus on the impact EHRs will have on the delivery and quality of care in terms of efficiency and care coordination.  <\/P>
\n
