Priscila Uppal, professor of humanities at York University, will be reading from a number of her works of poetry today. The reading will take place from 2:30 to 5pm, in the Senior Common Room, 305 Founders College, on York’s Keele campus. Uppal’s presentation kicks off the Living Poets Society Readings, a new series that offers readings by published and unpublished poets and is presented by Founders College. <\/p>\n

\"\"Right: Priscila Uppal<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Uppal is a poet and fiction writer born in Ottawa and currently living in Toronto. She holds a PhD in English Literature from York University and has published widely in the areas of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Her books of poetry include: Ontological Necessities<\/em> (2006); Live Coverage<\/em> (2003); Pretending to Die<\/em> (2002); Confessions of a Fertility Expert<\/em> (1999); and, How to Draw Blood From a Stone<\/em> (1998). Her novel The Divine Economy of Salvation<\/em> (2002) was published to national and international acclaim in Canada, the US, Greece, and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

The event is free and open to all members of the York community. It is hosted by Mauro Buccheri, master of Founders College, and co-hosted and organized by Paul Stanley and Michael Legris of the York University Bookstore. <\/p>\n

Four additional readings will take place every other Wednesday at the same location and time. The next reading is on Feb. 7.<\/p>\n
