Frances Flint Ph.D., ATC, CAT(C)
York University Athletic Therapy Certificate Program

Dr. Frances Flint has been a faculty member in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University since 1977. She attended the University of Oregon where she received both her M.S (1973) and Ph.D. (1991) degrees in sport psychology and sports medicine. Her research was an integration of both areas and focussed on the psychology of the injured athlete. In 1991, Dr. Flint's research was recognized with the AAASP Dissertation Award and NASPE Outstanding Dissertation Award. While at the University of Oregon, Frances became a Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA) and upon returning to Canada, was certified as an Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists' Association (CATA).

Prior to returning to Oregon for her Ph.D., Frances was the Head Coach of the varsity women's basketball at York University for 9 years. In addition, she was involved with the Canadian Women's National Basketball team from 1983 to 1988. In 1988 she was presented with the Canadian Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Award for her contribution to the development of basketball in Canada. Her background with international sport involved work with the Canadian Olympic Committee at three Pan American Games and at the Barcelona Olympics as well as involvement in various World Student Games and World Championships.

Currently, Dr. Flint is the Coordinator of the CATA accredited Athletic Therapy Certificate Program at York University. She is also a Canadian Red Cross First Responder and Automated External Defibrillation Instructor. During the 2000-2001 year she was the President of the Canadian Athletic Therapists’ Association and has served on the Written Examination Review Committee, the International Relations Committee and as the CATA Liaison to the NATA. In 2002, she received the CATA Distinguished Educator’s Award.
