Note: The paper above contains a small error in the calcuation of Fitts' throughput. The error is seen in Figure 2 which suggests a 2D calculation of the effective target width. The correct calculation is 1D, with the data viewed along the task axis. This is consistent with the inherently one-dimensional nature of Fitts' law and also with the requirement in ISO 9241-9 (updated in 2012 as ISO/TC 9241-411) that "sx is the standard deviation of the selection coordinates in the direction where movement proceeds (x-axis in a horizontal tapping task)".
