7 June 2009 - Post-Secondary Data Workshop
This
workshop has been organized as part of a Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council (SSHRC) project exploring the use and analysis of
post-secondary data. There will be an introductory presentation on the
initiative followed by a hands-on workshop. Participants will use
project datasets from the Ontario Universities’Application Centre
(OUAC) and Ontario College Application Services (OCAS) to explore:
- the OUAC and OCAS
application cycle.
- data file conversion
issues and considerations.
- preliminary analysis
of datasets.
- inking considerations
and issues with student information.
- issues and next steps
for cohort analyses.
Following
the workshop there will be discussions about participant interest in
future meeting and workshop dates. This workshop will be of value to
anyone interested in or currently working with post-secondary data
sets. This workshop is an excellent entry point for those interested in
learning to work with post-secondary data, no previous experience is
required. It will also be an opportunity for networking with school
board and post-secondary researchers. While a sample data set will be
provided, the issues and process that will be shared and discussed will
have immediate application to local board data sets. Information on how
to obtain post-secondary data will also be shared at the workshop.
