Authoritativeness and Accuracy cont'd...

Can you find any literature cited on the page to support the information presented?

Look for a bibliography or links to sites that support the information you are reading.

  • What sort of information is being cited?
  • Does it seem legitimate and authoritative?
  • Can you track down the cited information?

The last point about tracking down the cited information is particularly important.  Not only does it help you verify the legitimacy of the information you are reading, the cited information can provide valuable additional research for your topic.  Previous researchers have often searched for and read significant quantities of research materials....take advantage of the work they've done!
