Letters from the Dead: Vigil for Roxie with Carol Lawes (Kingston, Jamaica)

Letters from the Dead: Vigil for Roxie is a solo performance by Jamaican actress, Carol Lawes. At a memorial vigil kept by Inez for her son, Roxy a fallen Don, she remembers her son and relives the complex, hilarious and sometimes grotesque responses of women to the ever expanding tentacles of community violence. When Roxy, the protagonist, bursts on stage, we come face to face with a man that is a compelling combination of victim and oppressor, protector and abuser. The audience joins in the memorial for the dead, sharing food, memories and reasoning with Inez A collective creation by Amba Chevannes, Carol Lawes, Honor Ford-Smith and Eugene Williams.
