TOPICS

The conference is interdisciplinary, and so possible topics can include but are not limited to the following:

FORMAT

Paper presentations must be no longer than 20 minutes, which equates to approximately 10-15 pages long, with 12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, and 1 inch margins.  The CDSSA adjudication committee will review abstracts that are 150-200 words in length.  Authors might be asked to present their work as posters instead of as paper presentations.  Abstracts must be anonymous.  The text of the email must include the author’s name, institutional affiliation, contact information, the title of the work, and preferred presentation format (paper or poster).  Applicants must send their abstracts as attachments in Microsoft Word format to the following email address: cds_grad@yorku.ca

B.  Call for Arts

The Critical Disability Conference Committee invites artists to submit up to 3 slides of their work in photography, mixed media, works on paper, video, or sculpture for the Conference’s first annual juried show exploring Critical Disability art and aesthetics.  This exhibit will explore disability as a fluid construct that resists a normalizing conceptualization.  Instead we suggest that disability is varied and heterogeneous, intersectional, and slippery (Shildrick, 2007).  Critical

Disability Studies understands disability not as a failing located in the individual but rather as the product and process of multiple and intersecting oppressions.  The jurors for the Critical Disability Arts Exhibit will be announced shortly.

The show will run on April 24th, 2010.
