Assignment 3: Important Information

(Proposal + Documentary Text + Presentation)

In anticipation of your presentations for Assignment 3 this coming Thursday, I want to reiterate some information you’ve been advised of previously and pass on some additional information that you should keep in mind as you prepare.
  • The space you’ve been assigned last Thursday will be available for set up starting at 1:30 pm. Please set up your presentation between 1:30 and 2:30 so that grading may begin at 2:30 sharp.

  • Whatever you are planning, please ensure that building surfaces (floors, walls, and windows) are treated with care. They must not be damaged by your presentation.

  • As was announced when the assignment was introduced, there is limited A-V equipment available for those groups presenting in the public spaces rather than inside classrooms and whatever equipment is available will need to be shared. Therefore, I continue to encourage you to bring your own equipment if at all possible. For those of you hoping to use York equipment, the equipment depot will be located at ACW 103; scheduling and sign-out will take place there.

  • Because the presentations will be made during class time, please plan to be on site from 2:30 to 5:30. We’re aiming to create a spectacular atmosphere where art and everyday life intersect. Many presentations will be running simultaneously throughout Accolade West (lobbies and classrooms), and the lobbies of the centre for fine Arts and the Centre for Film and Theatre.

  • When you are not making your presentation for your TA and/or me, please feel free to offer your presentation to other audiences passing by as often as you like. Or take the opportunity to visit your classmates’ presentations. It’s important that you are all supportive of each other’s efforts.

  • Take down is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 pm and clean up is your responsibility. The space you’ve occupied must be left in the same or better condition than when you arrived so try to anticipate the cleaning tools and products you will need to bring with you.

  • In setting up in the space you’ve been assigned, please do not block any entry or exit ways and keep all wheelchair ramps clear.

  • All electrical cords running through public spaces must be taped down. Please make sure you have a roll of electrical or masking tape with you for this purpose.

  • As has been announced twice in class already, presentations may not include guns of any type, toy or real, nor anything that sounds like a gun.

  • As has also been announced twice in class, nudity within a presentation is fine as long as it is not gratuitous. In other words, you must be able to articulate how it assists in fulfilling the goals of the presentation.

I’m very much looking forward to exploring your work for this assignment with you. Best of luck to everyone!
