The Cyber-"Genre" of Oddball Websites

Genres have been described as "a distinctive type of communicative action, characterized by a socially recognized communicative purpose and common aspects of form" (Orlikowski and Yates, 1994). This has been proven true of all forms of literature and art throughout civilization. We, the class of SOSC 4318, are attempting to extend genres to the Web.

I have decided to do just the opposite. My belief is there are websites without socially definable purposes. If they are grouped together, it is because of their LACK of purpose. Although I do not disagree that genres of websites exist, it is important to tie up the loose ends that come as "oddballs". Hopefully jumping through these nodes will help us do just that.
