Oddball Lover's Delight: Target Audiences

Dealing with oddball sites requires a certain demeanor. As Agre said, "Each genre implies a particular audience and activity." Oddballs are not for the faint of heart or people with narrow ranges of humor. The most important resource is a very open mind with the ability to take on concepts far beyond the bounds of social norms.

There are a wide variety of oddball sites, especially due to the lack of rules. Topics range from the benign to the incredible to the revolting. Presentation can also be disgustingly amateur or deceivingly professional. Not every site may appeal to everyone.

It definitely helps to have a strong sense and wide perception of humor when dealing with oddballs. Otherwise, the lack of sense inherent to oddballs will be interpreted as noise to be ignored rather than nonsense to be laughed at.

Some bolder oddballs are downright gross and require an extremely sick and twisted sense of humor due to their usually taboo nature. Abusing gerbils isn't funny to most people. This still does not disqualify them from being oddballs, although they really should come with warning labels.

A good number of oddballs do manage to stay within the bounds of decency. Some are quite benign. It's very hard to imagine anyone being offended by a look at pi.
