About the Midterm
Hello. Here are some issues related to the midterm.
Where and When
As you have heard, the midterm has been scheduled for Monday, October 24th, from 7-9 p.m in Stedman Lecture Hall A.
If you are taking this course from somewhere outside of Toronto, you will need to contact the York Distance Education Office to arrange a place to write. Their email is: disted@yorku.ca.
What it covers
It will cover material up to and including Lecture 5 on your outline, which will be posted on October 17th.
Format
The test will include 10 multiple choice questions worth 3 marks each (bring a pencil), and 5 short answer questions worth 10 marks each. The questions will be drawn directly from the assigned readings and lecture material, including the assigned supplemental readings found on the course website.
You will not be tested directly on material found in the various blog entries I’ve included on the course outline. Those blog entries are only to give you examples of the issues we are discussing to help you better understand the assigned materials.
Here is a sample multiple choice question, to give you an idea of what they will look like:
1. “Unions are the result of poor management. If employers pay attention to their employees’ needs, the employees will feel no need to seek the assistance of a union.” The above statement is most consistent with which one of the following perspectives on industrial relations considered in your readings:
a. Institutional
b. Reformist
c. Neoclassical
d. Managerial
e. Radical/political economy
Good luck. If you have other questions, please use the Comment feature on this blog entry and ask your question here.

Hi Professor Doorey, would you be able to provide an example of what the short answer questions would look like?
Thanks!
Hi Professor. I was wondering if you had any sample short answer questions that you could provide as a way for me to prepare for the mid-term?
Thank you,
Anne
AnneMarie & Pearl, I will post a sample short answer question later this week (probably Thursday), when I get a chance.
Hello Sir,
I just wanted to confirm if the lecture that was given by Professor Lynk’s will be on th test?
Thank you so much
hello prof,
Do we need to remember the author’s name of every article in order to quote it in our answer, for example, supplemental readings?
Hi Professor, should we also focus the chapters in the textbook?
Riya, you are responsible for the assigned readings in the textbook.
