Puppet Motel is made up of 33 rooms that a participant wanders in and out of. Two rooms stand out as distinct from the others: The Hall of Time and the Attic. The Hall of Time is the first room that one enters. Twenty-two rooms are available from the Hall of Time. In most rooms, one can get to the Hall of Time. The Attic is accessible from anywhere in Puppet Motel. Pressing the escape key on the keyboard will always move to the Attic.

In this structural analysis, each room is displayed as a cube. All rooms except the Hall of Time and the Attic are spread out in a circle. The Hall of Time and the Attic are slightly larger cubes placed above and below the circle respectively. The paths from room to room are displayed as cones that link the cubes. The base of each cone is where the link originates. The tip of the cone is the destination of the link. If a link looks cylindrical, it is a two-way link - i.e. one can get from room A to room B and from room B to room A.

One can travel from room to room by clicking on a room (cube). Only rooms that are accessible will respond. The accessible rooms are coloured green. The structure will rotate to orient itself, so that the room you are in is in front of you. By default all links and rooms are blue. Links and rooms turn red once they have been followed or visited. Your trail is at most 8 links long. Green links represent possible paths. Links that are green can be followed.

Holding the mouse over a room or a link will display the name of the room or link. One can also rotate the whole structure by dragging the mouse up and down in space. Be patient as it may take a moment for the structure to respond.

To assist you in using the Rooms Structure model, please view this video introduction.

If you are interested in seeing how the rooms structure was created, you are welcome to download the Macromedia Director file. (In Netscape use Save this link as.... In Explorer use Download link to disk. Don't just click on it.) It requires at least version 8.5 of Macromedia Director. Macromedia does provide a trial version of its software if you would like to download it.
