SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Graduate Program in Interdisciplinary Studies is delighted to announce that Annie Veilleux has won a Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) MA thesis prize for 2011. Supervised by Professors Kathryn Denning (Anthropology), Carolyn Podruchny (History), and Jamie S. Scott (Geography and Religious Studies), Annie’s thesis is titled “Knowing Landscape: Living, Discussing, and Imagining the Toronto Carrying Place.” Annie is the first Interdisciplinary Studies student to be so honoured.

Draft Thesis Proposal

Draft proposals to be submitted February 1, 2012 to supervisory committee, (especially if applying to the Fieldwork Cost Fund)

Thesis Proposals Not Requiring Ethics Protocols Approval.
In order to ensure eligibility for these funds, students whose thesis proposals do not require ethics protocols approval must submit thesis proposals for FGS approval by the following deadlines:

Fall 2011 - Submission to FGS no later than November 15
Spring 2012 - Submission to FGS no later than March 15

These FGS deadlines mean students must submit thesis proposals to IS program office a minimum of two weeks earlier than the FGS deadlines:

Fall 2011 - Submission to IS no later than October 30
Spring 2012 - Submission to IS no later than February 28

Thesis Proposals Requiring Ethics Protocols Approval
In order to ensure eligibility for these funds, students whose thesis proposals require ethics protocols approval, the FGS submission deadlines above require a minimum of an additional 4 weeks:

Fall 2011 - Submission to FGS no later than October 15
Spring 2012 - Submission to FGS no later than February 15

These FGS deadlines mean students whose thesis proposals require ethics protocols approval must submit thesis proposals with completed ethics protocols approval to the IS program office a minimum of 2 weeks earlier than the FGS deadlines:

Fall 2011 - Submission to IS no later than September 30
Spring 2012 - Submission to IS no later than January 30

Students not wishing to apply for these funds must submit a draft of their thesis proposal to their supervisors by Janurary 30, 2012, and the completed thesis proposasl, including ethics protocols where required, to IS no later than March 30.

These deadlines must be adhered to absolutely, with no extensions, exceptions or exemptions.

CUPE Research Cost Fund

There are two competitions each year—one in Fall and one in Spring.

The online portion of the Spring 2012 RCF application will be available from Wednesday, February 1, 2012 until the deadline of Friday, March 2, 2012.
