* Other tips for finding faculty members that might be valuable research resources:

Go to almost any York web page, and towards the top right side of the screen, there is will be a search box.  That is to search York web pages.  Put in the key research areas you are interested in, and it will give you web pages matching that criteria. If it takes you to a course, find out who teaches if.  If it gives you a faculty members’ name, check it out.  If it gives you a research center, explore who is affiliated with the center.  If the faculty member has a graduate appointment, then they may be someone you want to contact.   

Also if a research center is listed, visit it.  They often have other resources, email listservs, host talks from guest speakers, etc. so you need to investigate them earlier rather than later, and see what may be beneficial to them.  In addition, research centers are also a possible source for Research Assistantships too, so you need to develop linkages with them if your research is in that area.

Also ask faculty members who are working somewhat but not directly in your area if they can recommend anyone closer to your research direction.  Faculty members usually know most of their colleagues  working in similar areas to their – either in the same time period, or geographical area, or the same school of thought as they are working in, so ask them.  They can be one of the best resources for that type of information.
